Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they start the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
